In the days leading up to Philippine Independence Day, the Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) participated in the launch of the "Sayang ang Araw" campaign at QC Memorial Circle, from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. The initiative highlights the strategic importance of harnessing the Philippinesโ abundant solar resources to advance energy security, sustainability, and national resilience.
PSSEA President Ping Mendoza delivered a concise address emphasizing:
The critical role of solar energy adoption in reducing reliance on imported fuels.
The importance of energy storage technologies for a reliable and stable power grid.
How maximizing solar resources represents not only an environmental imperative but also an economic and social opportunity, creating jobs and empowering communities nationwide.
The launch brought together government officials, industry leaders, and renewable energy advocates, reinforcing a shared vision: a Philippines where every opportunity for clean energy is maximized.
PSSEA remains committed to supporting initiatives, policies, and partnerships that accelerate the growth of the solar and energy storage sector, driving the country toward a sustainable and resilient energy future.

As the Philippine solar industry continues to grow, ensuring product quality, safety, and reliability across the value chain is becoming increasingly important.
The DTI-BPS has released a draft Department Administrative Order (DAO) proposing the mandatory certification of solar energy systems and related components, including solar PV modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), rapid shutdown devices, battery charge controllers, and PV cables.
Given the potential implications for manufacturers, importers, distributors, installers, EPCs, project developers, and consumers, meaningful industry engagement will be essential in shaping a regulatory framework that is both effective and implementable.
READ THE DAO HERE: https://bit.ly/DraftDAOSolarPV
PSSEA encourages industry stakeholders and practitioners to review the proposed DAO and share their insights, recommendations, and implementation considerations in the comments.
Constructive dialogue from the sector will help support the development of practical, safety-driven, and industry-responsive standards for the Philippine solar market.

Industry discussions highlighted a profound shift in consumer behavior across the board: both residential households and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) operations are moving beyond standalone solar toward hybrid solar-plus-storage systems. The priority has officially evolved from mere cost savings to absolute energy security and operational reliability.
However, to successfully meet this rapidly growing demand, government and industry must work hand-in-hand. Bridging the gap requires a unified commitment to strengthening grid infrastructure, fast-tracking interconnection queues, and establishing harmonized, streamlined permitting frameworks.
The future of the Philippine energy landscape is undeniably decentralized, storage-focused, and consumer-driven.

PSSEA met with Mariano Marcos State University Center for Affiliated Renewable Energy (MMSU-CARE) on May 13 to discuss a potential partnership supporting the establishment of a Solar Technology Testing Center (STTC) and the advancement of stronger standards for the Philippine solar industry.
The discussion highlighted the importance of bridging academic research and industry practice to improve safety, code compliance, and installation quality across the sector. Preliminary findings from MMSU-CAREโs study on small-scale solar PV installations revealed significant compliance gaps, underscoring the need for stronger technical standards, industry coordination, and workforce development.
Through this collaboration, PSSEA and MMSU-CARE aim to support evidence-based policy advocacy, strengthen consumer protection, and help professionalize the countryโs rapidly growing solar sector to ensure safer, more reliable, and higher-quality rooftop solar installations nationwide.
