The Philippines has the technology. What we need now are smarter policies to unlock its full potential.
Rooftop solar empowers Filipino households and businesses to generate their own electricity, lower power bills, strengthen energy security, and reduce dependence on imported fuels. Yet despite growing demand, regulatory and administrative barriers continue to slow its adoption.
To help accelerate deployment, the Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) has submitted its policy recommendations to the Department of Energy, calling for reforms that will:
⚡ Streamline permitting and approval processes
💰 Improve access to renewable energy incentives, including the proper implementation of 0% VAT
🏦 Expand affordable green financing
🛡️ Strengthen consumer protection through quality standards and accreditation
📢 Increase public awareness of rooftop solar and its benefits
These recommendations aim to create an enabling policy environment that delivers lower electricity costs, attracts greater private investment, creates green jobs, and empowers more Filipino homes and businesses to adopt rooftop solar.
