The Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) brought the Philippine solar industry perspective to the global stage during a New York Climate Week discussion on 22 September, highlighting how strong industry membership, policy advocacy, and strategic communications can work together to advance the sector.
PSSEA President Ping Mendoza and General Manager Mayet Pantastico shared insights on building an effective industry association, advancing the proposed Sariling Kuryente Act, and strengthening communications to support policy and industry objectives.
A key theme of the discussion was the role of industry associations as platforms for collective action. By bringing together companies and organizations across the solar and energy storage value chain, membership enables the industry to consolidate perspectives, share expertise, engage policymakers, and contribute to discussions on practical reforms.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of connecting policy advocacy, communications, and industry mobilization to strengthen stakeholder engagement and build greater awareness of the sector’s role in expanding consumer access to renewable energy. Rooftop solar and self-generation were among the key areas discussed, including the need for policy frameworks that can enable more consumers to generate and manage their own electricity.
For PSSEA, participating in an international platform also provided an opportunity to share the Philippine experience and demonstrate how a strong, collaborative industry association can help bridge business, policy, and public engagement.
What’s next: PSSEA will continue strengthening its membership network and creating opportunities for members to contribute to policy discussions, industry initiatives, knowledge exchange, and collective advocacy in support of energy security, affordability, and sustainability.
