The Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) joined the panel discussion “Consumer and Implementation Realities in Solar Energy Adoption” on 8 September, bringing industry perspectives on how streamlined processes, stronger standards, and better system visibility can support wider rooftop solar adoption.
Ping Mendoza, PSSEA President, highlighted the importance of clear accreditation and certification frameworks that distinguish responsibilities across the solar value chain. An “accredited supplier” concept was discussed as a way to clarify accountability between importers responsible for product standards and installers or distributors responsible for workmanship. Participants also emphasized the value of multi-stakeholder programs for developing credible accreditation and certification systems.
From the utility perspective, Meralco underscored the need for visibility of solar PV installations, including own-use, net-metered, and off-grid systems. Comprehensive registration data can help utilities plan infrastructure and manage operational challenges associated with increasing solar penetration and intermittency.
These discussions reinforce PSSEA’s position that effective rooftop solar policies should balance consumer protection, quality standards, efficient implementation, and grid reliability. Streamlined net metering and clear technical requirements can help reduce unnecessary barriers while ensuring responsible deployment.
PSSEA will continue engaging policymakers, utilities, regulators, and industry stakeholders to support practical accreditation, registration, and net metering frameworks that enable more consumers to adopt rooftop solar while maintaining safety, reliability, and accountability.
