PSSEA 15 Year Anniversary: Future Forward

PSSEA Celebrates 15 Years with New Leadership, New Members, and a Renewed Commitment to the Solar Movement

Ortigas, Philippines — The Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) marked a major milestone on July 15, 2025, as it celebrated its 15th anniversary with an evening that underscored growth, unity, and forward momentum for the solar and storage industry in the Philippines. Held at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, the event brought together key players from government, private sector, and the public to reflect on PSSEA’s journey and embrace its next chapter.

Newly Elected Board of Directors (2025–2028)

A key highlight of the evening was the oath-taking of PSSEA’s newly elected Board of Directors, who will lead the organization in its next three-year chapter. Representing a cross-section of the country’s most influential renewable energy stakeholders, the new board brings deep expertise, diverse perspectives, and a unified commitment to accelerating solar energy development nationwide:

  • Ping Mendoza – YUDA
  • Tetchi Capellan – SunAsia Energy
  • David Aboitiz – Aboitiz Power
  • Colin Steley – Stratcon
  • Jeffrey Calderon – Huawei
  • Joseph Yu – SNAP
  • Miguel De Jesus – ACEN
  • Bhong Bibi – Go Solar
  • Robert Pereja – EEI Power

Their election signals PSSEA’s intention to strengthen its thought leadership, expand its reach, and engage more deeply in policy, innovation, and public advocacy over the next three years.

Welcoming New Members to the Alliance

Alongside the new board, PSSEA also welcomed its newest members—representing growing interest and support across multiple industries. The following organizations took their membership oath during the event:

  • Total Power Incorporated
  • Joy-Nostalg Solaris Incorporated
  • Power China Philippines Corporation
  • Huawei
  • AON
  • SolarEdge

Their inclusion expands PSSEA’s network and reflects the alliance’s mission to serve as a dynamic and inclusive platform for solar and storage collaboration in the Philippines.

Keynote Address: ASEC Capongcol on Renewable Energy Progress

Assistant Secretary Mylene C. Capongcol of the Department of Energy delivered an insightful keynote on the state and future of renewable energy in the Philippines. Drawing from key government developments, she outlined how the country is building momentum through enabling policies such as:

  • Preferential dispatch of all RE resources in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM)
  • Full commercial operations of the Renewable Energy Market (REM)
  • Expanded net metering and rooftop solar programs (including off-grid areas)
  • Policy support for floating solar and upcoming Green Energy Auction Programs
  • Liberalization of foreign ownership in RE investments, attracting new capital
  • A projected increase of 53 GW of solar capacity by 2050 under Clean Energy Scenario targets

Capongcol highlighted that while solar energy currently comprises just 3% of the country’s power generation mix, the Philippines now ranks 2nd globally among the most attractive emerging markets for RE investment (BloombergNEF 2024). She emphasized that the momentum must continue through public-private synergy, with organizations like PSSEA playing a critical role in convening, informing, and advancing the transition.

Rebrand Reveal: A New Identity, A Renewed Mission

Capping off the evening was the official unveiling of PSSEA’s new brand identity, headlined by the tagline: “Empowering the Solar Movement for Every Filipino.”

In his remarks prior to the reveal, PSSEA President Ping Mendoza shared that the rebrand reflects PSSEA’s evolution into a more proactive, collaborative, and forward-thinking organization. The shift, he noted, symbolizes not just a change in design—but a recommitment to shaping a future powered by solar energy, storage innovation, and inclusive growth.

The new logo and tagline mark the beginning of a reinvigorated PSSEA — one that aims to unify stakeholders and equip communities across the Philippines to fully participate in the clean energy revolution.
